As always, I’m sharing my annual year in review posts to close out 2023. This year was all about the kitchen. After completely renovating my kitchen in 2022, this year, I have shared all that I learned through that major project.
Before starting my remodel, I did a TON of research! So, in my design posts this year, I have shared a lot of the topics I found most valuable through all of my kitchen planning.
If you are looking to remodel your kitchen, or you just want to do a few basic upgrades, this post will help you get started.
My Top Kitchen Design Posts of 2023
Dark Kitchen Cabinet Ideas
Taking my kitchen cabinets to the ceiling was a huge change I made in my kitchen. This simple DIY made my kitchen feel bigger and more up to date.
Before we had open space above our cabinets and it always looked weird to me. It’s too high to put anything up there and that’s not really where I want to draw the eye anyway.
Extending my cabinets to the ceiling elongated my cabinets making them look more custom and much taller. I love the look! It’s so good.
But my old cabinet doors weren’t the look I was going for. So I easily changed out my cabinet doors and went with a shaker door style. I then painted them all white.
However, lately, I’ve been contemplating painting them a darker color. (That’s the one negative of loving all things interior design, I’m always looking for spaces to make changes to).

9 Ways to Decorate Your Kitchen Countertops

Put appliances away, if at all possible. Get them off your countertops and into the pantry or a cabinet. It’s amazing what this simple change will do for your kitchen.
Add lighting. Whether it’s under the cabinet lighting or adding an accent lamp, lighting will make the space feel warmer and more inviting.
Just these two simple tasks will elevate your kitchen. But for more practical ideas, check out this post, all about how to decorate kitchen countertops.

Designer Tip: When It Might Be Time to Bring in Help
If you’re working on your home and things still don’t feel quite right, you’re not alone. Many of our clients start exactly where you are now. They’ve gathered ideas, saved inspiration photos, and maybe even purchased a few pieces, but the space still doesn’t feel cohesive. That’s often the moment when having a designer can make all the difference. We help homeowners create a clear plan so every decision works together. From layout and furniture placement to finishes and lighting, the goal is a space that feels thoughtful, comfortable, and complete.
