Work has already gotten under way for my next room makeover. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen all of the progress being made. So, therefore, it’s time…time to wrap up the master bedroom makeover series and move into our new venture. But before we move on, I would like to recap all of the changes made to this room. Because I really dove into this room and changed it up completely, I’m going to recap, this week and next, all of the projects accomplished. And then the following week, due to popular demand, I’ll send out a post with all of the links to the decor/accessories in the master bedroom makeover. Alright, moving into part one of our three part series. We all love to see before and afters. So, before moving any further, let’s look at what I was up against….

We’ve lived in our home for 13 years now, and have always wanted a master bedroom that felt more like a retreat…that wish has finally come to fruition. 🙂
I have never really been a fan of our tray ceiling and originally tried to come up with a way to draw the eye away from it. When that idea got me no where, I decided to take the complete opposite approach and draw the eye TO it. And I have to admit, it’s probably my most favorite feature of the room now! Head over to this post to learn how to turn your tray ceiling into a statement rather than an eyesore ….
After pulling out all of the old carpet and replacing with laminate, I tossed out our old builder’s grade trim and replaced it with the same craftsman trim I’ve been switching the rest of our house over too. If you’re looking for an easy, inexpensive upgrade that really packs a punch–replace your baseboards and trim with wider craftsman trim. Here’s how I do it!
I’m a sucker for accent walls. I love the dimension and texture they add to a space. So, of course, I perused Pinterest until I found the one for our master bedroom. Since I was going with an overall theme of Mid Century Modern design, I felt this wall treatment was the perfect fit. Very simple and quick to complete. Check it out here!
Another feature I love adding to rooms, is a sliding barn door. They always make a statement and add character. This one of course, needed to be very much on the modern side. I think I nailed it with this one! And, as always, I shared the tutorial with you guys, so you can build one too.
It has always been my dream to have a fireplace in my master bedroom. After building this cozy addition, I wonder how I went so long without one. It is truly a must-have! We love it!! Check out the plans here!
Our master bedroom has truly become my retreat!
Be sure to check back next week, when I share the rest of the master bedroom makeover projects and links.
