Here we are! Already in week 2 of the One Room Challenge.
This mudroom makeover has been a long time coming. And I am so excited to finally be “breaking ground” on this project. As I pointed out from last week’s post (week one), I jumped the gun on having this closet space removed about a year and a half ago. I had big plans for this space and then….it sat there….
And accumulated stuff. Instead of the mudroom, it became the catch-all room. Not so anymore! We now have a bench, cubbies, and a whole lot more, folks! So, let’s dive in and see what all has been accomplished in Week 2 of the One Room Challenge.
ORC WEEK 2:
My first step was to construct the cubbies for the bench to then sit on. After measuring my space, I assembled the cubbies in my shop (a.k.a. my garage 🙂 ) and then moved them into the mudroom.
We now have the start of the mudroom lockers in the space where the coat closet used to be…
Now, we’re ready to add the bench. I used 2×6 boards to achieve the planked look…
Just as a side note, I’ll be sure to follow up with a tutorial, of the cubbies and bench, at the completion of the One Room Challenge.
Knowing I want to add shiplap to this room, I wasn’t ready to build my lockers, just yet. So, instead, I moved onto the craftsman trim. I started this project by first, tearing out all of the old trim…
and then adding the new thicker, chunkier craftsman trim…
Time to shiplap!!! I like to use underlayment to shiplap my walls.
Here’s an easy to follow tutorial on how to get this look.
As you can see, I only have one wall completed so far for week 2, because, well….LIFE. Which I know you can relate to. 🙂
Next week, in the midst of life, we’ll finish up all the walls with shiplap and move onto our next projects.
But for now, I leave you with this inspiring mudroom picture from my friend, Bethany, over at Shiplap Addict …
Until Next Time,
Happy Building!!
