It was time! It was actually way past time! Sorry red couches you had to go. You served us well over the last 7 years, but it was time to move on. Time for something more modern and neutral. Time for new furniture.

I remember how excited I was when I found this red sofa and loveseat set… And for about 6 years, I loved them. But then I didn’t anymore. Isn’t it funny how our tastes change? We were actually just having a family conversation about this not too long ago. About what is timeless and what is more trendy today. Some of us agreed, shiplap is timeless. Cheviron is trendy. I don’t know. Paint colors come and go. This new green that everyone loves right now, I thought no way! I will never like that color. And now, yep, I like it!! Crazy, how that happens. Is it good advertising from all of the big box home improvement stores? Not sure. But whatever it is…I think we all fall into it.

In any case, these red couches were beautiful 7 years ago…

Loved It Then, Not So Much Now--New Furniture!!

I really had no intentions of buying new furniture when we visited Ashley Furniture Store a little while back. That doesn’t really make sense, does it? Let me explain. At the beginning of October, a notification popped up on my calendar telling me to be sure to use our $300 gift card we had at Ashley Furniture. Say what!?! What gift card? Going into my calendar notes, I was excited to see that we had purchased a warranty on our basement furniture three years ago. And three years ago, I made a note in my phone that if we didn’t use the warranty, they would give us $300 back in a gift card to be used in their store. We never used the warranty!!

With a $300 gift card in hand, my husband and I ventured into Ashley Furniture. Our intentions were to just buy some accessories. But then I saw it and I loved it!! Yep! They know what they’re doing when they offer you money back. How can you just go in for accessories, when the furniture is so shiny and new and calling your name? So needless to say and to make a long story short, we left with a delivery date for a new sofa and loveseat…

Now what to do with our red couches? Thinking they might be hard to sell, I listed them on Facebook Marketplace right away. And my phone immediately started beeping over and over again. Notification after notification. “I want the couches.” I think I could have had a bidding war, but ended up giving them to the first person who was able to come see them. Thankfully she needed to arrange a truck for pick up, so that bought us a little more time. Our furniture wasn’t due to arrive for another 2 weeks. 🙁 A few days later she came to get the furniture and we were left to fight over the one chair we had left in the family room….

Our family vacation could not have come at a more opportune time. We left for a little over a week to head down to Florida. Two days after we returned, our furniture arrived. It was perfect timing how it all worked out. And so worth the $300 gift card (and then some 🙂 ). I love the neutral colors…

THE NEW FURNITURE…

I’m so glad I decided to go with two different colors and not do the whole matching thing. Even the style is a little different between the loveseat and the sofa. I love how the sofa is a bit deeper, so lots of room to snuggle with the Mr. or the littles while watching t.v….

A definite must was that the back cushions had to be attached. We had a couch before where they were not attached and they broke down so quickly and never stayed upright. The couch always looked a mess. These, of course, are attached even though they have the look of not being attached…

I was not a fan at all of the pillows that came with the couch. Well, 2 of the 4 pillows anyway….

But I was very pleased that these blue pillows came with it…

They go great with my other pillows. Perfect!

And these pillows (that I already had on-hand) go great on the darker gray couch…

AND…I could not be happier with my wall color and these couches. I had been going back and forth on whether to paint my walls white or keep them this blue color. The solution was to get new furniture. Ha! Who knew?! I love the walls once again. There’s another one of those…loved the wall color a few years ago, didn’t like it so much lately. But now, I love it again!!!

This sofa and love seat is the perfect fit for our family…

Oh and by the way, we bought the warranty again and, yep, it’s in my phone!! Another great surprise to come in 3 years…Hmmm..which room will I not be loving the furniture in then??? 😉

Until next time,

Happy Building!!

Check out last year’s Christmas Decor post here.….with the red couches. 🙂
