What a difference lighting can make! What a difference industrial and farmhouse lighting can make! Updating light fixtures is just one more, fairly inexpensive, way you can change up the look and feel of a room. I have done this slowly and somewhat methodically…shopping around for the best prices and quality.
If you’ve followed me long enough, you know my LOVE for Pinterest. (But then what girl doesn’t love Pinterest 🙂 ). I am constantly pinning new ideas for updating fixtures and hardware in my home. You can check out my Pinterest Light Fixtures Board here. And I invite you to follow me on Pinterest, as I am constantly pinning new ideas for my home.
My first light I changed out was in my dining room. We had an old chandelier hanging. Unfortunately, this was prior to my blogging days and I don’t have any good pictures. So instead, we’ll get straight to the new light…
This was very simple to make….
How To Make a Basket Lamp:
I bought a dark basket from Hobby Lobby and dry-brushed white paint on it. Inside and out. Still allowing much of the original stain to show through. Then I drilled a hole in the middle of the bottom of the basket. Just large enough to get my wire through. I purchased a light kit and chain from Home Depot and threaded it together through the hole of the basket. As much as it pains me to hire things out, I then called my handyman to do all the electrical set up for me. That’s just one area, I don’t have the nerve to take on. Kinda has to be done right. 😉
However, as much as I love this light and get lots of compliments on it, I am ready for a change. I wish I would have put up two lights. The dining room table is big enough that it could have handled more than one light. Just another project. 🙂
Moving onto the foyer, I recently showed you this new update in a previous post. I absolutely love the farmhouse look of this light I purchased at OFD, here in town.
I am a sucker for all things farmhouse. This large orbital fixture really makes a statement hanging from the 12-foot ceiling in our family room. I actually stumbled upon it at a local vintage market flash sale and feel like I got an amazing deal on it. I saw one similar to it at the Country Living Fair and it was over $200 more. That made my day. 🙂
Another thing I can’t get enough of is all things industrial. I love the look of farmhouse meets industrial. The two styles complement each other so beautifully. A good mix of both can really add texture to your rooms. I have a combination of both styles in my kitchen/nook area. This hanging jars lamp definitely leans toward the farmhouse look.
(Sorry about the poor quality of this picture…I was really competing with the sunlight.)
Whereas, this vintage style dome pendant moves over to the industrial side.
The glass jars lamp leads me to another thought on these types of lights…the bulbs make all the difference. As you can see, I have basic lightbulbs in this fixture. I need to switch it over to Edison bulbs. They take on a style of their own. Many of the industrial and farmhouse light fixtures do not look complete without an Edison bulb. Just a side thought. 🙂
I have to say, I’m a little partial to this light…You can read all about it here.
Chase, my 18 year old, has quite a skill at designing and crafting these together. I proudly display a couple of them throughout the house. Again, totally industrial.
And last, but not least, is the total makeover I completed on Ty and Grayson’s room last year at this time. To give them a little more light for reading before bed, (at least it’s a good thought) I purchased these industrial metal shade wall sconces from Lowe’s. One each for over there beds. I think I enjoy them more than they do. I love the soft light it puts out at night.
As I continue to remodel and update rooms, I will continue to change out the light fixtures. As much as I would love to change them all at once, it makes it a lot easier on the budget when it’s done a little at a time.
Tell me what you think. Do you love farmhouse and industrial combined? Are you a fan of just one? Or maybe, not a fan of either? Hit reply if you have any comments or questions. I would love to hear from you.
