7 Modern Home Theater Room DIYs
#1: DIY Home Theater Room
Our new favorite room in our house. Our theater room! We all love the ambiance of this room. It’s such a peaceful room with its dark moody color. And of course, the kids love the theater aspect of this space.
But the one thing that blows my mind about this room, are the before and afters! If for no other reason, you have to go check out this post to see the transformation. Amazing what paint can do!
Some of the key features I knew I wanted in this room were:
- A dark, moody color palette
- Perfect ambiance lighting
- Big screen tv or projector screen
- Great sound system
- A popcorn machine was a must!
These are just a few of the features. Be sure to check out this post to see not only the before and after pictures, but also the full transformation this room went through.
#2: Home Theater Room DIY’s: Home Theater Riser
With the size of our theater room, I was able to add a second row of seating. This enabled us to keep our original sofa and add a large sectional sofa in front of it. In order to see over the large sectional, I needed to build a home theater riser. This was such an easy DIY project in my list of home theater room DIYs. I share all of the details to how I built this riser, in this post…
#3: DIY Floor to Ceiling Bookshelves
My goal for these floor to ceiling bookshelves, was for them to blend in with the space. I really wanted the decor within them to be the focal point. These bookshelves were so easy to build and would look great in any room.

#4: Media Console Table Tutorial
Of all of my home theater room DIYs, this one is my favorite! This build brought so much satisfaction.
While scrolling through Instagram one day, I saw a portion of a console table that I instantly fell in love with. While only a third of the table was visible in the picture, I felt like I had enough of a visual to be able to recreate it.
So, off to the drawing board I went and then out to my workshop. I love how this furniture piece turned out. It’s so good!! Here’s the full tutorial of how I built this gorgeous media console table….
#5: Home Theater Room DIY’s: Picture Frame Moulding Tutorial
What do you do with a really long wall? This is a dilemma many people struggle with.
We have a super long wall in our theater room. 22 1/2 feet, to be exact! Picture frame moulding is an elegant and beautiful way to add interest and dimension to your walls.
In this post, I take you through the step by step process of installing picture frame moulding on any wall. Another fun and easy DIY…
#6: DIY Textured Wall Art
While these next two home theater room DIY’s are strictly cosmetic, they add so much texture and dimension to any room. They also do serve a purpose.
Maybe they’re not as effective as acoustic panels, but they do somewhat provide the same benefits of these panels. Allowing for a surface where sound can be absorbed, these canvases are both beautiful and functional.
Might I add, they were so much fun to make! Check out this tutorial to see how I got the look for each one of these. I also share the secret to a really creamy paste for any textured art work….
#7: Floating Canvas Frame DIY
I really debated on whether or not to add a frame to each of my textured wall art canvases. I’m so happy that I decided to. They were just the finishing touch these canvases needed.
Another thing I went back and forth on was what kind of frame to add. The last time I created this textured art piece dupe from Crate and Barrel, I added a regular frame. I love how this artwork turned out with this simple frame.
