ENTRYWAY MAKEOVER
Keeping the costs down, while still creating a beautiful space can be a challenge. The solution? DIY it! Maybe DIY gives you anxiety. I get that, but let me show you how easy it is to transform this dated entryway….
into a modern, eye-appealing space….
As you can see, I already had horizontal shiplap on the walls, but I wasn’t loving that paint technique anymore. (Check out this post for a quick guide on how to shiplap). Painting these boards black will make everything against them pop, while adding a dramatic effect to the room….
Continuing the board and batten I have throughout the rest of my first level, into the entryway, added more dimension and character. This is a very simple DIY (here’s how you do it). Painting the board and batten white (Behr Ultra Pure White, to be exact–my go-to for all of my trim), is a great contrast against the black shiplap and a dramatic touch to this entryway makeover….
These 12-foot ceilings can really make furniture and decor feel small and get lost in the space. So, adding some height was exactly what this alcove needed. I built this console table to perfectly fit this space. Another super easy project! 3 boards, some screws, hemp cord and voila! You have a table! (Get the easy to follow instructions here)….
Adding large statement pieces in a high-ceiling space is appealing to the eye also. This giant vase (previously blue when I picked it up on clearance from Marshalls), was easily transformed into a gorgeous pottery-like piece by just adding spackle and paint. I may have gone a little crazy the day I painted this…let’s just say, no vase in my house was safe from this technique. It’s such a fun project!!! (Check out all the details on how to get the look–here!)
Saving my favorite entryway makeover DIY for last! This picture!
Isn’t it lovely!? Ok, maybe not at first glance, but add some spackle, paint, and hot glue….now what do you think?
Yep! That’s the same canvas!! I actually rescued this canvas from someone’s trash at the side of the road. Moral of the story: don’t throw away those old dated canvases! They’re not cheap to buy, so hold onto them and make them beautiful again! Crate and Barrel actually wanted over $600 for this canvas. When I saw it in the store, I fell in love with it. But not so much that price tag! How easy it was to make my own!! (Another easy to follow step-by-step tutorial right here)….
So, what do you think! Do any of these sound too difficult and overwhelming? Not bad at all, right? I hope you’ll give one (or two) or maybe all of them a try. It’s actually a lot of fun once you get started. Like anything, starting is the hardest part!
See you next week!
Happy Building, Friend!!
