Remember my aggressive plan of updating all of my trim to craftsman trim? My big idea was to complete one area of the main level per month. So back in January, (yes, almost a year ago) I got started.

I was off to a great start and finished the foyer within the month. Moved onto the dining room and finished by the end of February. I was on a roll. And then NOTHING. Crickets!! And here we are rolling around to November and my big idea didn’t quite pan out the way I thought it would.

Not exactly sure what happened…other than life. 🙂 AND my mind always turning and thinking, what can I do next? I have some ideas for the kitchen and I don’t really want to change out the trim til I change up my kitchen. Nothing drastic (like I would LOVE to do). Just some “simple” updates. Stay tuned. 🙂

But for now back to the trim. I’m not worried about my lack of progress. These rooms aren’t going anywhere. I actually have boards down in my basement ready to be primed and painted. It’ll happen. 🙂

So let’s look at what has been done. Here’s an update on the foyer. I’m really happy with how this area has turned out.

I searched and searched for something to fill this large wall. (Check out this post see how I created this wall)….

My want was a large galvanized windmill piece (like the one here, sold by Pier 1 Imports). Knowing it needed to be very big, I found one at a local vintage market, but it was a little salty. Awesome, but salty. So, I continued my hunt. The moment I fixed my eyes on this piece, it was love. I’m a huge fan of maps. See, mom and dad, my geography degree wasn’t all for nothing. 😉

There was one thing in the foyer that really needed to go…the early 2000 light fixture, from when our home was built. It just screamed, “one of these things does not belong.”

So, slowly, I have been updating our lighting throughout the house. I found this gem at OFD…a local shop. They have awesome Restoration Hardware type stuff for NOT Restoration Hardware prices. 🙂 WIN!! So down came the old light and up went this one…

I love all the new light fixtures out there. So many cool ones to choose from. It’s amazing how making that one update can change a room.

Which is also the case with trim. Going from the builder’s grade trim to this craftsman, thicker trim has added so much character. I love the look and can’t wait to finish it throughout the rest of the house. I’ll keep you posted. 🙂
