A girl needs a place to store all of her stuff….Right? To display her BFF’s pictures and all the fun memorabilia. A command center is just the place for that! For a long time, I had this old window I found and was unsure of what to do with it. But I knew it would come in handy someday. It was way too cool to throw away!!
When you find these old pieces though, rarely are they clean. So, I went to town on this with soap and water and lots of scrubbing power. Got my arms workout in for the day. 🙂 When I finished it looked like this…
We decided to paint this an ivory color. I enlisted my kids and their neighborhood friend to do this step. Little did they know, I was actually trying to occupy them with something to do while I worked on another project. 🙂 They loved it!! And with their help, I was able to multi-task.
Although, by the look on Grayson’s face…he might have been onto me. 🙂
After the paint dried, we were ready to start filling our windows…
All of that paint on the windows is no problem…since we’re covering it up anyway. 🙂
Lauryn and I had gone out and chosen fabric a few days earlier. And I let her decide what she wanted each box to be. She chose: cork board, chalk paint and dry-erase sheets. We covered our first cork board…
Using this glue…
Then did the same to the other two cork boards and glued them onto each window…
A girl’s gotta have her sweets while she works…Halloween candy in the background.
At first we went with this white dry-erase board sticker for two of the windows and chalk paint for the other window…
But after the dry-erase sticker kept peeling off, we decided to go with black chalk paint for all three windows…
I actually ended up liking the look of this a lot better. So it was a WIN!!
I found these dainty adorable push pins on Etsy…
As you can see Lauryn has utilized this command center board very well.
She loves it!! And once again, it was a super easy project. And bonus…Lauryn and I got to work on it together. I love passing this stuff onto my kids!!
UPDATE: We have recently done a full makeover of Lauryn’s room (as you can see a sneak peak of it in the picture above). Check out the before and after post here. It’s quite the transformation!!
