5 DIY Tips to Boost Your Home’s Hygiene

Kitchen sink

The most significant factor in filthy kitchens is the accumulation of unwashed dishes. But you can avoid this by washing them after each usage. Also, be thorough, as residual food particles and oil promote bacteria development. Fill the sink with water and leave the dishes in it for a few minutes for easy and effective cleaning. Afterward, scrub it with a sponge, and rinse with clean water.

Throw out rotting items

A refrigerator’s primary purpose is to keep food fresh. However, if not well maintained, they can begin to deteriorate over time. Rotten food in the refrigerator can even breed pests and insects. Which, in turn, causes bacteria to develop on the food, and releases a foul odor.

In extreme cases, if attention is not given to this issue, a pest infestation in your kitchen could be the result. Causing you to need the services of an exterminator to completely clear out the pests.

An easy solution to absorb bad odors is, putting baking soda, coffee beans, or a piece of charcoal in the fridge.

Focus on the bathroom sink

Bathroom sinks and faucets are particularly prone to germs, mold, and algae growth. You may use any washing solution for routine cleaning. Simply spray the cleaner and wipe it down with a dry towel.

However, for difficult-to-reach areas, an old toothbrush can be used. Rub the dirt gathered around the faucet and sink with a toothbrush dipped in white vinegar. Afterwards, let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing with water.

If your sink is blocked, you can unclog it with baking soda and hot water.

  • Boil hot water and pour it down the drain
  • Allow the water in the sink to drain fully
  • Then add the following concoction: 1 cup baking soda mixed with 1 cup vinegar/1 cup water
  • Plug the faucet and wait 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Finally, unblock the drain by pouring boiling water down it again.

Wash household appliances

Along with countertops, always wipe down your home appliances too. As a tip, lightly scrub the appliances with a cloth dampened with water and soap. After you have finished cleaning, wipe off the appliances with a dry towel.
