Finally! Fourteen years later and I feel like our backyard patio is coming together! Always a work in progress right? One step at a time. As I shared in last week’s post, every summer I’ve kinda focused on a different element of the backyard and this year’s focus has been our backyard patio space. I am so thrilled with how this has all come together. It started with building new outdoor furniture. Our patio furniture from a reputable company here in town has served us well over the last 13+ years. That’s a long time for patio furniture…..(Sorry about the wonky picture–not sure why it looks so weird 🙁   )….

And although it was still in really good condition, I was ready for a change….

The hardest part about giving up our old furniture was letting go of the Sunbrella cushions that have maintained their firmness and comfort for 13+ years! That’s incredible! I hope to purchase from them again in the future. But for now, these cushions from Target work well. I’m confident they’ll hold up their quality for a few years because I have the same cushions on my deck and they’re still very comfortable (3 years later)….

WANT TO BUILD THESE OUTDOOR CHAIRS?? HERE ARE THE STEP-BY-STEP PLANS!!

To save a little, I decided to go with pillows as the back of the chairs/couch rather than cushion backs. I actually love the look and color it adds! And in the winter months, I can use them in my indoor decor. Added bonus!

What’s better than a $3775 coffee table from McGee and Co?? A $150 coffee table that you built yourself and looks just like the crazy-expensive one from McGee and Co. I need to make a change to the style of the legs. A simple step that I forgot. But I’ll have the plans to build your own, coming soon!

Plans to build the furniture and this cute little fluted table–coming soon too. This fluted table DIY was so much fun! And might I add, SO EASY! You’re going to love it!

Now that it’s so comfortable out here and so pleasing to the eye, I love hanging out here. Especially on bonfire nights around our SoloStove. This firepit has been a game changer for us. We used to avoid bonfire evenings because of all of the hassle and work that went with them. But with this awesome firepit, bonfires are care-free and maintenance free. Add in these PullStartFire starters and we have a fire that starts by simply pulling a string…how much easier can it get?? (Pssst…PullStartFire is offering 10% off to all RL readers, so be sure to go check them out!)

There’s one negative to our pergola space though…our neighbor’s property is not far behind it. And while we love our neighbors, it’s nice to have some privacy too. So….I built these planters to provide a little bit of a privacy screen without feeling too closed in. I love the slatted look! It gives it so much more character…. (Once again, plans coming soon)

WANT TO BUILD THESE RAISED PLANTERS?? HERE ARE THE PLANS!!

Oh, and I forgot another negative….mosquitoes! They’ve been awful up north here this summer! So, to get the upper hand on them, I planted some mosquito repelling plants…Lemongrass, Rosemary and Lavendar….along with Pampas grass and Purple Fountain Grass. The Lavendar and Rosemary smell amazing!!

I do have a couple more things I would like to add to this backyard patio space. Before summer ends, I would like to add a bench to match the same design of the planters. And eventually (maybe next summer) a new light fixture to replace the fan. We really don’t use it very often, so I don’t think it will be missed.

Although these changes have taken me most of the summer to build and make happen, it has been well worth it! And just in time for the beautiful temps of Fall–when we’ll be spending even more time out here!
