More About Me

Google pretty much any home decor trends coming in 2024 and you’ll find articles that say they’re “in” and articles that say they’re “out.” What does this mean? It’s all in the eye of the beholder.

And once again, goes back to style. Does it flow with the style of your home? That is to say, if your home has a style. Check out this post to find the style of your home.

Home decor trends won’t break the bank in the way that a total revamping of your kitchen will. So, venturing outside the look of timelessness and more on trend can be fun and attainable.

Sometimes we just have to have that new “in” chair or wall art. And although the trend will most likely be out in 3-5 years, it’s ok, because the price-point is easier to acquire.

13 Top Home Decor Trends for 2024

Top Home Decor Trends #1: Tactile textures

The Organic Modern design trend continues into 2024. Fluted wood, boucle, curvy and unique furniture shapes will all continue to see an uptick in popularity throughout the next year. And I don’t know about you, but that makes me happy.

I could go crazy with boucle. That texture! Amazing!

Top Home Decor Trends #2: Organic materials

Playing off of trend #1, organic materials and earth tones inspired by nature continue to cause quite the stir moving into 2024.

The design world can’t get enough of these warm wood tones, and mossy greens.

In recent years we’ve seen a lot of lighter pale wood tones, however, darker wood tones are making a comeback.

We’ll see these 1970’s wood tones in flooring, furniture, cabinetry, and fabric. Look for bamboo, cork, sisal (similar to jute) to continue to hit the stage in 2024.

Coming Soon: I’ll be sharing my guest room/home office makeover with you in the weeks to come. Currently in progress. I can’t wait to show you the dark wooden flooring I’ve chosen. I’m looking forward to the warm, moody vibe it’s going to set.

Home Decor Trend #3: Organic pottery

I love how all of these trends tie into one another so perfectly. And this trend does not disappoint. Big vessels and planters that look 600 years old will be all the rage in 2024.

Trend #4: Muted pillows

The pop of color pillows against subdued toned couches will be a dated look in 2024. People are looking to better integrate their pillows with the rest of their earth tones color palette.

Faux fur and velvet pillows in muted tones exude a warm and cozy feel.

Trend #5: Abstract art

Have you tried your hand at your own canvas art yet? There is something so satisfying about transforming an old ugly canvas into a work of art.

I have a full tutorial on how I took a canvas from someone’s trashcan and turned it into a $600 Crate & Barrel dupe. Here’s the link to make your own.

Abstract, textured art canvases are here to stay. So, don’t throw away those old ugly canvases.

Trend #6: Antique wall art

Along with abstract art, antique wall art in chunky gilded frames are big in 2024.

But no need to break the bank on an old antique piece, you can find the same look at thrift stores and even Amazon for much more affordable prices.

Get the look with this beautiful piece I found at Target.  And those gilded frames?

Once again, check out Goodwill or your local thrift shop. If the gold is a bit too shiny for you, simply rub it down with some steel wool and watch the gold shade tone down.

Top Home Decor Trends #7: Coffee bars

Not a coffee drinker? How about a hot chocolate bar? Now we’re speaking my language. Coffee bars are not just for the kitchen anymore.

People are leaning towards the convenience of having these stations in their family room, theater room, home office and even their bedroom.

Timeless Design Trends #8: Neutral wall colors

Choosing neutral colors for your walls not only gives you a classic base but also lets you try out trendy decor, making it a reliable choice for a long-lasting and stylish look.

When it comes to creating a timeless interior design, neutral wall colors are a must-have. Shades of white, beige, and gray provide a clean and fresh backdrop for any style of decor.

Not only do they create a sense of calm and serenity, but they also make a room feel larger and more spacious.

Neutral palettes are versatile and adaptable, allowing you to easily change up your accent pieces and soft furnishings without having to repaint.

Whether you prefer a modern or traditional look, a neutral color scheme provides a blank canvas to showcase your personal style.

Incorporating neutral wall colors into your home decor is a design trend that will never go out of style.

So, if you’re looking for a timeless and sophisticated look for your home, go for a neutral palette in your wall paint!

Decor Trends #9: Wood floors

Wood floors will never go out of style. Whether you’re looking to add wood floors to your living room, bedroom or kitchen, they’re sure to bring in a cozy vibe.

Their timeless look, durability and versatility make them an evergreen design trend.

The use of natural materials in your living space brings about a sense of freshness and openness. It allows the room to feel more airy and bright. Especially with the current trend of lighter wood tones continuing throughout 2024.

Lighter wood flooring is perfect for those seeking a modern and spacious aesthetic.

These floors look great in any style home, but really hit the stage with the rise of the Scandinavian design trend.

But remember, dark wood floors are really making a comeback. So, needless to say, you really can’t go wrong with light or dark floors.

Trend #10: Live plants: Adding Life and Freshness to Your Timeless Interior Design

If you’re looking to add a touch of nature to your home decor, look no further than live plantsIndoor plants have been a timeless trend in interior design for many years, and for good reason.

Not only do they improve air quality, but they also act as a focal point in a room, adding life and a fresh look that can’t be replicated by any other decor item.

There are countless varieties of indoor plants to choose from, each with their own unique shapes, sizes, and colors. Whether you opt for large leafy plants or small succulents, incorporating greenery into your decor will never go out of style.

There’s a plant to suit every taste and skill level, like the elegant fiddle leaf fig or easy-to-care-for succulents.

Adding live plants to your decor can be as straightforward as placing a statement tree in a stylish pot or getting creative with unique plant displays.

In 2024, the trend is all about finding innovative ways to showcase your greenery, such as using hanging planters, stylish plant stands, or a botanical living wall.

#11 Layered Rugs: Adding Texture and Warmth to Any Room

One of my favorite timeless interior design trends is layering rugs. By combining different textures, patterns, and colors, you can create a classic look that adds warmth and depth to any space.

Whether you have hardwood floors or carpeting, layering rugs can transform the room feel and make it more inviting.

Start by selecting a large anchor rug that fits the size of your room. This will serve as the foundation for the layered look. From there, add a smaller rug on top that complements the color scheme and style of the anchor rug.

You can use a thinner rug with a bold pattern or a cozy shag rug for added texture.

Layered rugs offer endless design possibilities. They can define different areas within a room, adding visual interest and cohesion. For instance, placing a smaller, patterned rug on top of a larger, solid one can highlight a seating area or anchor a dining space.

What makes this trend truly special is its flexibility. You can achieve a bohemian look with a mix of colorful, textured rugs or opt for a more elegant and coordinated style by layering rugs with complementary colors and patterns.

In 2024, homeowners are encouraged to let their creativity shine and experiment with various rug combinations to create a personalized and inviting atmosphere.

Beyond aesthetics, layered rugs provide practical benefits. They offer extra cushioning and insulation underfoot, making your space cozier and more comfortable. They also serve as a protective layer for your floors and add warmth during colder months.

Incorporating layered rugs into your home decor isn’t just a passing trend; it offers timeless design elements that continue to inspire.

Whether your style is organic modern, modern farmhouse, or minimalist, layering rugs is a versatile and enduring trend that adds depth, character, and comfort to your living spaces in 2024 and beyond.

Trend #12: Open shelving

When it comes to home decor, functionality and style go hand in hand. That’s why open shelving in the dining room is a timeless trend that adds both beauty and practicality to any home.

By using open shelving, you have easy access to your favorite dishes, glassware, and decor items while keeping them on display for everyone to see.

Open shelving is not only functional, but it also creates a sense of openness and airiness in the dining room. It makes the space feel larger and more inviting, perfect for hosting dinner parties or family gatherings.

When it comes to implementing open shelving in your dining room, there are a few things to keep in mind…

First, consider the style of your existing decor and choose open shelves that complement it. For a more modern look, opt for clean-lined shelves in a sleek material such as metal or glass. For a more rustic look, consider using reclaimed wood shelves.

Top Home Decor Trends #13: Classic Style Furniture

Classic style furniture never goes out of fashion and is a staple in timeless interior design styles. The clean lines and elegant curves of traditional furniture styles make them the perfect investment pieces. They add a sense of permanence and refinement to any room.

Different Furniture Styles

There are many different furniture styles to choose from when selecting timeless pieces. Mid-century modern chairs, tufted sofas, and a vintage-inspired coffee table are just a few examples of classic furniture styles that stand the test of time.

Investing in Timeless Furniture

Investing in classic style furniture is a great way to add long-lasting value to your home. Well-made pieces can be reupholstered or refinished to suit changing decor trends, while still retaining their timeless beauty.

When choosing classic furniture pieces, look for quality craftsmanship, sturdy materials, and timeless design. Investing in these pieces will ensure that your home is always in style.
