Even in the midst of all we’re going through right now, summer is right around the corner. And before we know it, we’ll be heading back outside to enjoy happier, sunny days. Can I get an AMEN! HALLELUJAH! I think we are all ready! But, I wanted to drop in today and give you some ideas, while we’re all stuck at home, on some DIY curb appeal ideas. Why not get a head start, so that you’re ready to enjoy the great outdoors-when the time comes?
Last summer we made some huge curb appeal improvements on our home. I’m not sure why I always say, “we”…because in reality it was actually mostly, “I”. Not to pat myself on the back, but the truth is-my husband is not a DIY’er at all…never has been and I’m guessing, never will be. But that’s ok, because I love this stuff. And I love sharing my projects with you and hopefully inspiring you to give them a go, even if your husband isn’t a DIY’er either! We’ve got this ladies!! Let’s go!
SEVEN CURB APPEAL IDEAS THAT MAKE A HUGE STATEMENT
Curb appeal idea one: Update your brick exterior
The number one and most impactful improvement project I completed last summer was limewashing our brick. I have gotten so many compliments on our home since doing this very simple project. It literally took me one day to complete! I started in the morning and was finished before the sun went down. I actually had time to make it to a graduation party that evening. It was a fun and rewarding project. Just look at the difference it made….

Curb appeal idea two: Update exterior paint colors
Of course after lime washing the exterior brick of our home, it was in desperate need of a new paint job.
This one-I hired out. 🙂 I don’t do high peaks! 🙁 I love the paint colors we chose for our exterior and painting our windows black–best move!!
We went with 4 colors that all complement one another, for our exterior. You can read all about that project and the colors we chose in this post.
Curb appeal idea three: Update your front door
After all of these improvements, our front door stuck out like a sore thumb! Not pretty at all! SO….I found this beautiful, stand-out door at Home Depot…
You can read all about the door I chose and what to consider when choosing a new front door, here.
Curb appeal idea four: Update your garage door
Going a little ways back into the archives, we added these faux windows to our garage doors about 4 years ago. I love the craftsman look they give the garage doors and our house. The great thing is you can paint them to match whatever color you paint your garage door now or in the future. They have held up very well and truly look like real windows. People are always shocked that they’re not real. Adding the carriage house hardware was also a nice touch. Check out more information about these changes in this post…. (Amazon Affiliate Link)
Curb appeal idea five: Add shutters
A change I helped my parents with last summer to boost their curb appeal, would look great on any house. It’s one I would definitely be adding if we didn’t already have them…board and batten craftsman shutters. These were SO EASY to make and make such a statement! The before and after pics are incredible. You can check out both in this post. But for now, here’s a look at the after shot…
Curb appeal idea six: Add a flower box (or two…)
A quick and easy feature to add to your home’s exterior is a new flower box. We have a faux window on the front of our house that I have always wanted to accent, but never really knew what to add. The flower box I added last summer, was exactly what it needed. I love the beautiful color the flowers add against the backdrop of the house. By the end of the summer, they are so full and lovely! The best part-it costs less than $15 to make and looks so much better than any store-bought flower box. Check out this full, easy-to-follow tutorial and go make one to add some color to your home’s exterior this summer…
Curb appeal idea seven: Add modern outdoor chairs
If we had a large wrap around porch (#dream!), I would display these gorgeous modern outdoor chairs in all their glory for all to see. But since our front porch is small, these two chairs, I built last summer, reside back on our deck. They do make for a comfy spot to sit with my hot tea and devotional on warm summer mornings. After price checking these last summer, building them myself definitely made the most sense! And once again-EASY! Go check out the tutorial here!!
Last summer was the summer of curb appeal improvements, looking forward to a little more relaxing this summer. HAHA! Who am I kidding!? I will always find a new project indoors or out. 🙂
Until next time,
Happy Building, Friend!!
